Precept HR & Law Celebrates Successful Partnership with Specialist Pet Group (SPG)

Precept HR & Law is celebrating a successful partnership with Specialist Pet Group (SPG), having supported the business with employment law and strategic HR guidance for the past two and a half years.

Specialist Pet Group is a family-run business made up of five brands: Pedigree Wholesale, Just for Pets, DOG by Just for Pets, Pets & Friends and Pets Parlour. Together, the group employs more than 580 people across the UK, spanning retail, distribution and warehousing operations. Led by Group HR Director Emma Martin, the HR team has grown to six members during a period of continued business growth.

Like many growing businesses, SPG has had to navigate an increasingly complex employment law landscape. From legislative changes introduced through the Employment Rights Act 2025 to organisational restructures, acquisitions, TUPE transfers and day-to-day employee relations, the business needed trusted legal and HR expertise to complement its in-house team.

The partnership began after Emma Martin attended a series of Precept HR & Law webinars in late 2023, where she was impressed by the team’s practical, straightforward approach to employment law and HR support. Shortly afterwards, SPG appointed Precept HR & Law to provide a retained employment law service, strengthening its internal HR capability.

Since then, Precept HR & Law has worked closely with the business, providing guidance on TUPE, organisational restructuring, day-to-day employment matters and access to regular webinars and legislative updates. By taking a collaborative approach, the team has helped SPG navigate complex employment challenges while ensuring decisions remain aligned with both legal requirements and wider business objectives.
